One way I would see them doing it efficiently without making people who don't like external launchers - is put SQ42 on all storefronts no log in or launcher needed - but it comes with Arena Commander and Star Marine multiplayer for free you do need to download a launcher and link your account to them for you to play - Then you have the option to buy into StarCitizen from CIG direct and log in via the launcher to play. I genuinely think they'd make more money launching on all storefronts with SQ42 and no delay and instead making their money on people buying SC from their storefront only. In addition to this, a single-player campaign game titled. Future releases will include mining, bounty hunting, farming and more. Using the power of Amazons Lumberyard Engine, it consists of a persistent world massively multiplayer taking place in the Stanton star system.
I'm personally not a supporter of game companies using their own launcher for single player games bought through other storefronts though - so I can't really approve of that method but I know my position is in the minority on that. Star Citizen is an early access space simulator video game for the PC. SQ42 will probably be released on Steam but use the CIG launcher to run it and then the game will have the option to buy into Star Citizen from the CIG website. this would no doubt bring in a wave of new players and would help stage and stress test servers, then have another big promotion in days leading up to launch until launch itself. this is not a good combination.SC would need to be nearly complete if it does ever happen, so it should not be during any stage of alpha, and not really even during 99% of beta, but maybe like a month before launch date.
Steam already has enough issues and controversy over "early access" titles, and SC already has its own hurdles dealing with skeptics. I dont think it should happen any time soon. Steam is a huge marketplace, and it could be mutually beneficial for CIG and Valve to strike a deal. I imagine for huge titles like SC that have their own following, the valve cut can be negotiated, rather than the standard rates for no-name indie devs. its trivial work to get on steam this way, very few technical problems. though it will probably be like many other MMOs, launching it on steam will probably just open the regular RSI launcher. CIG tentatively predicts the game will hit alpha 3.16 by the end of 2021.I wouldnt be surprised to see SC available through steam someday. Star Citizen is currently in alpha version 3.12.
Despite the space sim having missed its original anticipated release date of November 2014 by quite some margin (not to mention a succession of other milestone targets for its various announced modes), that figure has continued to climb dramatically in the years since. Star Citizen's initial crowdfunding campaign set the bar high, securing over $6m back in 2012.
Nearly half a million dollars came in on 12th March alone. IMPORTANT It is important that you install ALL the fonts in the fonts folder or this skin will not look as intended. The months since have been leaner: nearly $6m came in in December, just over $3m in January and around $5m in February. CIG insists money pledged goes directly to the game's development.ĬIG provides real-time updates on the money flooding into its coffers, and we can see November last year was a bumper month for Star Citizen, bringing in nearly $17m alone as CIG held the game's annual two-week free access period. Developer Cloud Imperium Games makes money by selling starter packs, subscriptions and virtual space ships - some of which cannot currently be piloted in-game. After all, the only tangible things that Star Citizen has produced so far are some alphas, an oft-delayed single-player mode, and more than a few lawsuits. Star Citizen and chief developer Chris Roberts have come under fire for years now for failing to release the game, or provide a target release date.

Squadron 42, the single-player portion of the game, is still in development but does not have a release date. Star Citizen is an early access space simulator video game for the PC. Over eight years after its initial crowdfunding effort began, Star Citizen is still without a release date, although parts of the game have been released in early access form.
